Day Two: Mousehole to Marazion
Nice easy 7 mile flat stroll today, getting ready for much more demanding days ahead. Left Mousehole and followed Penzance bay round to Newlyn, still an important fishing port and then on to Penzance before reaching Marazion by 2pm. With spare time on my hands, I took the little ferry across to visit St. Michaels Mount. Amazing spot, with a 12th century church at the very top, and fabulous views in all directions, including across to the historic satellite earth station at Goonhilly. My route now turns southward, and stretches off into the distance, with the next four days taking me around the beautiful Lizard peninsula. Looking forward to an early night, and then up early to watch the rugby world cup - England vs the old enemy - with a full english at the Godolphin Arms. Swing low, sweet chariot!

Day One: Land's End to Mousehole
So today I kicked off my big walk, catching an early train to Penzance, then a taxi to Land's End before setting out ...
Stiff breeze greeted me but from the south west ... while I was mostly walking north east :) towards Porthcurno, where I stopped to eat lunch on the beach (a Cornish pasty, what else?!) and then this afternoon on to the pretty fishing village of Mousehole. After 13 miles of up and down, with a pack on my back, I can feel it! Still, now only about 360 miles to go until I reach Poole some time in November ...

Warming up this blog
This weekend I was in San Francisco (my favourite city on the planet!) and the weather was absolutely perfect, so on Saturday I went for a little walk and took a few photos on my iPhone. Starting at Union Square, I headed down to the Ferry Building, along to Fisherman's Wharf and reached Fort Mason, the old army facility where views of the Golden Gate Bridge start to kick in...

Walking on to the marina area, I came across some kind of kite festival, before reaching the bridge itself...
I carried on through the beautiful Presidio area, reaching Baker Beach (below) where believe it or not I am sure I spotted the actor Tom Skerritt (who played Viper in Top Gun!) - cue lots of Top Gun quotes!
Forced inland a little by cliffs, the walk then took me past what must be some of San Francisco's most fabulous houses, along 'El Camino Del Mar' and then I was pleasantly surprised to find myself at "Lands End" - San Francisco style.
My walk then followed a fantastic coastal path, formerly the line of a famous tram route from the city to the 'Cliff House' at one end of the 5 mile Ocean Beach, facing out to the Pacific.
I wandered along a bit further, then turned left into the Golden Gate park before finally rejoining urban streets, some 6 hours after leaving my hotel. Visitors to San Francisco, trust me and check this coastal walk out!
